Well it finally happened. I gave up my Giants season tickets following the 2009 Season. As my uncle said, "Well, we'll just have to have a good time in our last year." I just can't afford, nor can I fathom paying $5,000 per seat just to have the right to buy tickets. That being said, the Giants sent me an email an email regarding a reduction in ticket prices in one area of seats from $400 to $250.
Given my recent decision to turn down the Private Seat License, I wrote an email in response to them. The letter is below. I know it won’t change anything and I know they probably won’t even read, it, but it had to be said. I needed to get it off my chest. Feel free to link this to anyone you know who may be considering buying tickets from these disgraceful human beings. Maybe we can change more people’s minds. I know that probably won’t happen either, but at least I can say I’m taking a stand.
Dear Mr. Mara and Mr. Tisch,
I have been a Giants fan for as long as I can remember. One of my first memories was the Giants' Super Bowl XXI victory in
Throughout these years, many of my family members, including myself, spent countless hours in the Giants Stadium Parking Lot cooking burgers and dogs, drinking beers and soda and tossing around a football. We mindlessly handed over thousands of dollars to walk through the turnstiles to support our team, or should I say, YOUR team, yet not once did we ever ask for anything, nor did we ever receive a thank you for our support, more than some half hearted video tribute on the big screen.
Year after year, all that we received was an increase in ticket and food prices as well as heartache. We sat there through Dave Brown and Kent Graham. We suffered through Ray Handley. Following the loss to
I guess, by saying that you are lowering ticket prices, which are already overpriced to begin with and are still over priced, being reduced from $400 to $250 is your way of saying thank you. In these economic times, it’s going to take more than that. In fact, regardless of the economic climate, what you think is a “fair” value for what you are providing is not only insane, but it’s insulting to your fans.
I think you know what I’m getting at here. To be frank, I have no respect for either of you. I’ve turned down multiple offers to pay you a “Private Seat License” fee a.k.a. Fan Extortion Fee, which entitles me to nothing, regardless of what you or your website says. Your fathers would be turning over in their graves if they knew how you have treated your fans. I, for one, refuse to give you the money you think you deserve. What you have done to the fans, who have stood by you since the days of the Yale Bowl is despicable and a disgrace. Looks like what I’ve heard about you, Mr. Tisch from those who work for the New York Stock Exchange is a proper depiction of the type of person you really are. Your character precedes you sir. Let’s just say, if there was a report card for character, you would get an F.
So in response to your email, no I do not want your seat license and no I do not want your new $1.6 billion stadium, which I’m sure, is mostly filled with dirty money to begin with. I will be enjoying every Giants game in 2010 and beyond from my home in my big cushy comfortable Lazy Boy chair, watching it on my big screen TV, drinking beer that costs $20 for a 30-pack, not $15.50 for two. Maybe you’ll see me at a game, but I can guarantee you, I won’t be paying a seat license for them. I can also guarantee you that if I do ever set foot in that stadium, you won’t receive a cent from me at the concession stands. You’ve gotten enough of my money.
I know this letter probably won’t even reach you and if it does, it won’t change how you feel, for if you are as cold and heartless as you have expressed in your way of treating your loyal fan base, this letter means nothing to you. However, it means a lot to me and I’m sure there are many other fans who agree with my sentiments.
In closing, I wish you both well in your endeavors and that you don’t disgrace your fathers’ legacies as I feel you already have. May God bless you both and have mercy on your souls for your materialistic ways.
Sincerely,
Rick B.
