This is going to sound completely strange...but I hope Mets fans and baseball fans everywhere enjoy this series. Hypothetically if these two teams were wearing blank jerseys I would be so fired up for this series. This really could be one for the ages. In reality this is a nightmare for Mets fans. In turn...I will not root for either team but I will root for certain events. Here are 7 things I wish to happen in a 7 game series.

#1 CC Sabathia and Cliff Lee both get knocked out of the game by the third inning in game 1 and Charlie Manual makes several major mistakes costing the Phillies the game. Having just spent 3 days in Cleveland for work and listening to local sports radio I am revitalized as a Mets fan. The folks of Cleveland have it sooooooo much worse. In this scenario all 3 major parts of recent Cleveland history fail and the city of Cleveland can smile even if it is just for one day.

#2 In game 2 Pedro Martinez takes the mound and dominates the Yankees with 7+ scoreless innings. Not only do Yankees fans have to now really worry about this series but they also have to here it from the Red Sox faithful which makes it 10 times worse for them. Me and Pedro are cool. I have no problems rooting for him for one night.

#3 Due to excess celebrations and the high number of arrests from the NLCS the mayor of Philadelphia forces Citizens Bank Park not to allow the sale of alcohol during games 3, 4, and 5 of the World Series. I am really going pie in the sky here but why not.

#4 Derek Jeter hits a go ahead home run in the top of the 9th inning in game 4 to give the Yankees a one run lead and a chance to go up 3-1 in the series. In the bottom of the ninth A-Rod makes a crucial error that allows two runs to score blowing the game for the Yankees. This will officially burn all good will A-Rod has earned with Yankees fans this postseason not only costing the Yanks the game but taking away another story to the folklore that is Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. The A-Bomb from A-Rod jokes will be non stop.

#5 Joe Girardi sets a modern day record for double switches in one game eventually having A-Rod, Posada, Cano and Damon all out of the game and having the Yankees lineup look like so:

Jeter

Pitchers spot

Teixeira

Gardner

Hairston

Molina

Hinske

Swisher

Cabrera

Mike Francesca's head explodes.

#6 In game 6 with the Phillies leading three games to two in the series and 6-3 in the 9th inning Brad Lidge comes into the game with the champagne on ice. With two outs he gives up a grand slam home run to Nick Swisher (probably the easiest Yankee to root for) to send the series into a game 7. This will really let Phillies fans know what it feels like to have something that seemed like a lock ripped away from them in the final moments.

#7 Game 7 drama. I would rather the Yankees win than the Phillies but I could live with either result. Either way I am going to have to. I want there to be a hero, but I do not want that hero to be one of the following: Teixeira, A-Rod, Sabathia, Pettitte, Joba, Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard. I hope it has both fan bases agonizing over every pitch. I hope there are 6 different lead changes in the game. Just because Mets fans don't get to watch quality baseball, doesn't mean the rest of the country shouldn't. I hope it gets everyone so fired up that you can't wait for pitchers and catchers to start next year no matter what team you root for...because right now I am NOT looking forward to 2010 baseball, and if that changes I can finally feel like a winner this year.
